PC110

The IBM PalmTop PC110

What's on the diskettes?

Introduction

The PC110 2431-YDW is supplied with five diskettes, all carefully labelled and documented in Japanese. For those of you who can't read Japanese (like me!), this page describes what I can make of them.

I'll identify the diskettes by their IBM part numbers (the small numbers) or as the 'blue and white disk' and the 'white disks', but will also refer to what English there is on the labels. Does that make sense?

Original diskette images

Since only one of the utility diskettes supplied with the PC110 is available for download, and this is not the main diskette required to restore the factory software configuration, I have packaged up the four diskettes into .DSK images, then compressed them into .ZIP files. Once unzipped, you will have to use the LOADDSKF utility to unpack these to diskettes. Run LOADDSKF without any command line parameters to see a description of the syntax and switches available. All images are of 1.44MB 3.5" diskettes.

This is not meant as an infringement of IBM's copyright on these programs; the images are provided as an aid for owners of PC110's who do not have access to the original diskettes. Please do not abuse this.

This diskette boots (with PCMCIA storage drivers loaded) to a Japanese installation menu for the contents of the four white diskettes. I haven't tried these as yet, but the probable options are:

  1. Install DOS?
  2. Install PCMCIA drivers?
  3. Runs FDISK so you can repartition your drives.
  4. Runs format to format ... (I haven't tried this one!)
  5. Go to DOS prompt
  6. ATA PCMCIA configuration?
  7. Install Personaware

Press <F3> then <Enter> to exit if you're not brave enough to try them out either!

Amanda Walker has good instructions for non-Japanese readers on her web site for reinstalling from this diskette.
