Installing DOS

Video support

Video chipset

The PC110 uses a 512KB Chips & Technologies 65535. On the C&T web site, you will find the Windows 3.1 driver package, which also contains the DOS video utilities. Unpack the files, and run SETUP.EXE from DOS, which will allow you to install support for the following:

VESA support

Of interest to gamers will be the support for VESA video bios extensions (VBE). These standards were drawn up to standardise the many different interfaces to the acceleration and display mode enhancements which manufacturers were building into SuperVGA chipsets. Many games require a certain level of VESA VBE in order to operate correctly.

The PC110 video chipset as it stands supports VESA VBE 1.1, I believe. As mentioned above, there is a small program on the Windows 3.1 driver diskette which provides VESA VBE 1.2 compliance - just install the VESA 1.2 option, and run the program VESA.COM. If that's not enough, then please try out the excellent SciTech Display Doctor package - formerly known as UniVBE - which provides full support for the C&T 65535 chipset at VBE 2.0 and VBE 3.0. It is available for many more platforms than DOS, at only a small registration fee.
